How to Let Go of the World (and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change) – Castro Theatre, Thu, Apr 14 7:30 PM

Oscar Nominated director Josh Fox (Gasland) continues in his deeply personal style, investigating climate change. Fox’s fight to protect his home from oil and gas companies, now leads him to the banks of the Amazon; to the island nations of Vanuatu and Samoa; and the choking air of China. At each stop asking: what is it that climate change can’t destroy? What values and creativity are so deep within us that no storm can take them away?

This is both a sobering reflection on the state of climate change and the perfect remedy for those with climate change fatigue: celebrating the creativity and resilience of our movement.

Anthropologists – Roxie Theater, Tue, Apr 19 6:30 PM

At the core of The Anthropologist are the parallel stories of two women: Margaret Mead, who popularized cultural anthropology in America; and Susie Crate, an environmental anthropologist currently studying the impact of climate change. Uniquely revealed from their daughters’ perspectives, Mead and Crate demonstrate a fascination with how societies are forced to negotiate the disruption of their traditional ways of life, whether through encounters with the outside world or the unprecedented change wrought by melting permafrost, receding glaciers and rising tides. As Mary Catherine Bateson, daughter of Margaret Mead, asserts, “Climate change forces us to have to learn the family business.”
