What a poignant reminder that we are abusing Mother Nature for the sake of our convenience. No one that is reading this is probably capable of throwing something like a tampon applicator on a beach – but who is to say that is what happened here?

Plastic bags, tire fragments, gunshot wads – most of these are not tossed into the ocean intentionally – but they still end up here.

The weekend after coastal cleanup day, let’s get reminded of the plastic problem by going out in our own groups (bring your family along) and cleaning out our favorite Ocean Beach. As we muddle our way out of the pandemic, it is time we start recommitting to our plastic-free ways.

We will meet on the Great Highway on Taraval (plenty of parking, 2 equidistant muni options, bike parking and clean bathrooms) at 10am and clean up as much as we can by noon. Due to the tricky nature of the delta variant, we will not be gathering much; but we will be capturing images of everything we collect to make a virtual collage with a message – Reduce our dependence on single use plastics.
